Bees Need Mentors In Order to Waggle Dance Correctly
Bee America
Cool Science: Scientists have discovered that the bees' famous waggle dances - indicating the distance and location to important food sources - include an important social component. Young bees must learn from older bees how to execute the dance precisely by touching their antennae to the bodies of dancing older bees. While much of the waggle dance is innate, bees who don't have this additional training from more experienced bees will produce sloppier dances conveying imprecise directions.
